Gerald's Story
Chicago, IL
About a year ago both of my sons, 2 & 4, years old, were sick with a gastric infection. They were holding on to these fevers at home that I could not get a lid on. So we took them both to Children's ER. But the thing about these small trips to the Emergency room with my oldest is that he has Sickle Cell Disease so the doctors are usually very concerned with his recovery. I knew he would be admitted.
My youngest son was treated and discharged. My oldest son was afraid to stay overnight alone, he didn’t want his family to leave him. So the hospital allowed my entire family to stay the duration that my son was there.
We were given everything we needed for comfort, sleepers, meals, movies, games, and my son’s favorite, ICE CREAM. He just enjoyed himself ( DURING A HOPSITAL STAY!!!) My heart couldn’t have been happier. I will never forget it.
I am so grateful for the special treatment received by the staff. My son's Hematologist (Dr. Nelson) is excellent and so was his nurse. Children's Hospital and staff will always rank number one in my book.
