On October 5th, 2008, my daughter Madison had a stroke out of nowhere. It was later determined that she had a severe heart condition called dilated cardiomyopathy. We were terrified to learn that our 2.5-year-old daughter's heart was so big it was practically collapsing her lung, and was not working well at all.
Terrified, we got as much information as we could from the doctors and nurses at Children's, who were wonderful.
Madi spent a little over a week in the P-IMC that visit. She was admitted again in February of 2009 for increasing heart failure, and then again in July of 2009 when her heart rate plummeted due to a medication going toxic in her blood. At that time a pacemaker was implanted and we hoped she would bounce back quickly. It was not to be and Madi was transferred to the Mayo Clinic and received a new heart on August 7th, 2009. It turned out to be a blessing in disguise and Madi is doing AWESOME now!
We cannot say thank you enough to Dr. Gremmels, Dr. Rios and all the Children's staff for helping us to "Make Madi's Miracle."
