Twin Cities Area of Minnesota
Children’s of Minnesota is located in the Minneapolis and St. Paul (Twin Cities) urban area. National surveys consistently rank the Twin Cities at or near the top in overall quality of life.
Not too big nor too small, the region is the 16th largest urban center in the U.S., with a relatively low population density (meaning people aren’t crowded together).
People here are well educated, healthy, and community spirited. Twin Citians pride themselves in their civic accomplishments—great theater and arts (more theater than anywhere else but New York City) and marvelous outdoor recreational opportunities, helped in no small measure by the abundance of lakes and rivers. All major professional sports are located here.
People here are more likely to be high school or college graduates, have a higher median family income, and own their own homes. The statistics are the results of sound K to 12 schools and the presence of the main campuses of the University of Minnesota, and many smaller public and private colleges. A diverse economy helps drive job creation. Seventeen of the U.S.’s Fortune 500 companies have their headquarters here.
People here are increasingly culturally diverse. Families have come here from Europe, the Near East, Africa, Latin America, and Asia. Today, Minnesota has the largest Hmong (Laotian) and Somali population in the U.S. The mix of cultures and languages (12 percent of the households in the Twin Cities speak a language other than English) creates a vibrant civic and social life.
The Twin Cities is the center of medical device technology development and manufacturing in the country, and is easily the largest health care center between Chicago and the West Coast.
Visitors breathe the region’s fresh air and marvel at the vibrancy of the downtown areas and neighborhoods. People choose to shop at the Mall of America–travelers from other countries fly in for the weekend to shop there–or along quaint neighborhood streets.
Join us at Children’s, and make your home here.
