Children’s RN Residency Program
Get your nursing career off to an exciting start at Children’s Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota!
Children’s Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota champions the special health needs of children and their families. We offer a unique RN residency program designed to transition new graduate nurses from the academic to the professional nursing environment. This program combines didactic and precepted clinical experiences within the organization.
Our mission is to provide a welcoming environment to new graduate nurses and provide enhanced support for the transition from academia to practice.
Key Components of Children’s RN Residency Program
Patient care experiences:
Nurse residents gain competence in core clinical pediatric skills in a unique system design. Each nurse resident gains an expanded perspective of the Children’s system through experience in a variety of specialty units.
Precepted orientation:
Nurse residents and experienced preceptors jointly deliver safe and effective pediatric care. RN residents identify personal learning styles that enhance critical thinking skills.
Reflection:
The program emphasizes the importance of self-reflection through facilitated group discussions. New graduates strongly benefit from the opportunity to share and process stresses in a safe environment.
Didactic and Simulation:
Classroom and simulation lab experiences focus on core pediatric content presented by experts from our Children’s team utilizing evidence-based practice.
Mentorship Program:
Each nurse resident is paired with a nursing mentor. This relationship is built on principles of honest and open communication and advocacy for individual nursing role development.
