Welcoming Environment

Welcoming Environment

All employees have an opportunity to contribute to creating a Welcoming Environment at Children’s. Many employees are involved in the Welcoming Environment Committee that helps create a welcoming and diverse environment where everyone matters. There are four work teams within the committee, which represents patients and families, visitors, employees, and interest groups, and works in partnership with Children’s leadership.

Service Standards

The welcoming environment at Children’s is largely based on Children’s Service Standards. These standards of behavior were developed by employees. They form the foundation for providing the best care to children and their families, and provide the basis for employees’ interactions with each other. Each area within Children’s is represented by a Service Standards Ambassador, who promotes the Service Standards.

Below is a description of the Service Standards and how each employee has the opportunity to create the welcoming environment that makes Children’s unique for patients, families, and employees.

Excellence

  • Be a champion for children in the workplace and the community.
  • Strive to master the skills needed to do my best work.

Respect and Dignity

  • Treat children, families, and co-workers with respect.
  • Respect the privacy and confidentiality of children, families, and fellow employees.
  • Greet families, visitors, and employees in a way that is warm and welcoming.

Communication

  • We are all partners: Work to communicate effectively with children, families, and each other.
  • Listen to one another and families, then respond promptly and reliably.
  • Keep children and families informed about care and treatment.

Cooperation and fairness

  • Treat each person as an individual, not as part of a category or group.
  • We will work together as an organization, not only as individuals or departments.
  • Personal Accountability and Self-Care
  • Conduct myself in a professional manner.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and therapeutic environment.
  • Identify ways to take care of myself and encourage others to do the same.

Each quarter we highlight one of the five core Service Standards, demonstrating how employees make them come alive.

Education Opportunities for employees

At Children’s, there are always opportunities for employees to continue their education.

  • Lunch and Learns give employees the opportunity to learn about a variety of health care topics as they relate to different cultures while they eat their lunch.
  • Grand Rounds are educational seminars that include different health care topics and guest speakers throughout each month.
  • Children’s also offers tuition reimbursement programs, conferences, and more.

Employee Recognition

Children’s values the extraordinary contributions of employees and their commitment to delivering next generation care. There are several opportunities for employees to be recognized for their great work, whether it be a nomination from co-workers, or from families.
