Giving to “Delivering Next Generation Care”

Cancer

Our Vision for Children

Best outcomes for childhood and adolescent cancer, with care provided in an environment that enables children and their families to heal, grow, and thrive.

Where We Are Today

Children’s treats more than half of all Minnesota children with cancer, with outcomes that compare very favorably with national norms. Our mission is to help our patients live life as vigorously and boldly as they are able. Our nationally recognized Stoplight program keeps children active from the moment their cancer care begins, helping them build resilience to spring back from cancer treatments and resume daily activities as soon as possible.

Our Dream for Tomorrow

To build cancer treatment capability that allows us to:

  • Ensure early access to the latest treatments. Offer our patients the earliest possible access to the latest in proven treatment options, including infusion therapies that take precise aim at their targets, thus enabling more effective treatment and reducing unpleasant side effects.

  • Cure cancer and reduce the effects of cancer treatment. Provide therapies that not only support a cure but also mitigate the potential impact of cancer treatment on children’s bodies and cognitive development.

  • Reduce isolation during treatment. Provide an expanded therapeutic environment, equipped with the appropriate airflow and other controls, in which young cancer patients may move about safely and interact with other children.

  • Keep our patients connected to their world outside the hospital. Through electronic media in their rooms, allow children to stay connected with home, school, friends – and, with a strategically placed Web cam, even pets.

  • Expand our outpatient clinic. Increase our capacity to provide cancer treatment through space designed specifically for the unique needs of these patients and their families.

  • Conduct research to better understand and mitigate late effects of cancer treatment.

  • Serve as a national resource for multi-disciplinary care practices to support the development of children with cancer.

  • Support our patients over the long term. Provide programs and support for our patients as they grow and develop their physical and learning potential.
