Programs and Activities

Bereavement follow-up: Trained staff place periodic calls to the family the first year after a child dies to offer emotional support. Educational resources also are offered at the time of death and soon after.

Parent to Parent: Parent to Parent is intended to offer newly bereaved parents emotional support from parent volunteers who are bereaved themselves, but whose child died more than 2 years ago. The parent volunteers are assigned to an interested family and provide emotional support via the telephone for the first year of bereavement. Those interested in being a Parent to Parent volunteer should contact Theresa Huntley at (651) 220-6904, Liz McDevitt (612) 813-6059, or Pat Schaffner (651) 220-6731.

Memorial services: Services of remembrance are offered twice a year to publicly acknowledge the loss of the children and to offer families time to memorialize them.

Camp Connect: A weekend retreat designed for children and teens who have a sibling die. It is intended to help them connect with other bereaved siblings as well as approach their grief in a fun setting.

Fall Retreat: A once-a-year event for families to share with each other, to remember their child, and to learn about grief.

Grief support groups: Groups for parents, grandparents, and siblings (ages 3-18 years old) are offered at Children’s - Minneapolis, Children’s - St. Paul, and in the community three times a year. Special programming is offered in the summer. We also offer groups for spouse loss and parental loss groups for children and teens.

Quarterly newsletter: A quarterly newsletter is sent to families for up to two years following a death.
