  • Family Grief Support Program meets twice a year on Thursday evenings, 6:30-8 p.m. Programs are offered for bereaved parents, siblings ages 4 to 18, and extended family members.
  • Daytime Grief Group. A daytime grief group for bereaved parents meets every other Wednesday morning from 10 - 11:30 a.m. Childcare is available for pre-school children. Participants must make a commitment to the entire series.

  • SIDS Parent Support Group. This group is for newly bereaved parents. Meetings are held on the first Wednesday evening of the month from 6:30-8 p.m. at Children’s in the Family Resource Center (Minneapolis campus). Contact: Kathleen Fernbach at (612) 813-6285.
  • Pregnancy and Infant Loss Support Group. For parents who have experienced a perinatal loss. This group meets the 2nd and 4th Monday of each month on the St. Paul Campus. Registration is required; however, there is no fee. Contact Annette Klein at (651) 241-6206 for more information.

  • General Grief Support Group. This is an adults-only group meeting on Monday evenings from 6 - 7:30 p.m. at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 200 E. Nicollet Blvd., Burnsville. No registration or fees are required. Call the church office at (952) 435-8102 for additional information.
  • Pregnancy Loss Support Group. For parents who have experienced a perinatal loss. This group meets in the chapel from 7 - 8:30 p.m. the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of each month. No registration or fees are required. Contact Labor and Delivery at (952) 892-2055.
  • Youth Grief Services. 7-week series for youth, 4 – 18 years of age. Groups are organized by age with age appropriate activities provided. A parent/caring adult group meets separately. No charge; but please register. Contact Lisa or Pat at (952) 892-2111.

  • Youth Grief Services. 7 week series for youth, 4 – 18 years of age; parent/adult groups are also part of this program. Held Thursday evenings. Trained volunteers facilitate support groups for youth who have experienced the death of a loved one. Kids groups are organized by age with age-appropriate activities provided.   • Family Grief Support Retreat. This educational support retreat for children, teens, and their surviving parents is open to young families who have experienced the death loss of a parent. The retreat is offered annually and is co-sponsored by Park Nicollet Health Services, Allina Hospice, and Health Partners Hospice of the Lakes. Preregistration is required.   • Loss Support Group for Children and their Parents, North Hospice. Eight-week session for children, aged six through 12, who have experienced the death of a family member. Parents’ group meets concurrently. Mondays 6-7:30 p.m. Call (763) 520-4834 (Mary Marcoux) to pre-register. There is no fee.
  • Teen/Young Adult Loss Support, North Hospice. Eight-week session, twice a year (Spring and Fall) for those 13 years old through young adulthood who have experienced the death of a family member. Parents’ group meets concurrently. Mondays 6-7:30 p.m. Call (763) 520-4834 to pre-register. There is no fee.

  • Capital City Grief Coalition. Education and support for those grieving. Group meetings held each week at a participating church. Contact Lois Knutson at (651) 227-4430.
  • Center for Grief. 1133 Grand Ave., St. Paul, MN 55105. Offers grief support groups for adults and children. Groups are divided by loss type and age as closely as possible. Fees are based on an adjustable fee scale. No one is denied participation in a group due to inability to pay the fee. For information call (651) 641-0177.

  • Compassionate Friends. Calvary Lutheran Church, 7520 Golden Valley Road, Golden Valley, MN 55427. This meeting is open to bereaved parents suffering the loss of a child of any age from unborn to adult. Meets the 3rd Monday of each month. Phone: (952) 975-3627.

  • Downtown Coalition for Grief Support. Meetings are on Saturday mornings at 9:45 - 11:30 a.m. Meetings rotate between the various downtown churches. Contact person: Tom Anderson (952) 927-7453.
  • First Lutheran Church of Crystal. 7708 62nd Ave. North, Brooklyn Park. Grief support group (for many kinds of losses) meets 2nd and 4th Thursday at 7 p.m. For information call (763) 537-4576.

Growing Through Loss. Inter-denominational grief groups are offered periodically; sponsored by area churches. Each evening has a presentation and an opportunity for breakout, small group discussion (one of these is the loss of a child).

  • South Suburban: Tuesdays 6:30 – 9:15 p.m. For more information call (952) 890-0045.
  • North Suburban: 6-week program, Thursdays, 6:45 - 9:15 p.m. Sessions are held spring and fall at various locations in the north suburban area of the Twin Cities. For specific dates and further information, please call (763) 755-5335.

Jewish Grief Support Services. Bi-monthly groups open to any Jewish adult, regardless of affiliation. Loss of a Loved One – 1st and 3rd Wednesday evenings, 6:30 – 8:30 p.m., Temple of Aaron, 616 Mississippi River Blvd. S., St Paul. Contact: Facilitator, Bruce E. Kuritzy, (651) 698-8874.   • Judson Family Center. 4101 Harriet South, Minneapolis, MN 55409. Grief groups for children, teens, and adults. Adult group is on-going, Thursdays, 10-11:30 a.m. Children/Teen group is offered as the need arises. The fee is $10.00 per group. Pre-registration is required. OUTSIDE THE TWIN CITIES METRO AREA

If you are outside the metropolitan area, the social work or chaplain’s departments of your local hospital can assist you in locating support groups and counseling resources. Some of them are listed below:

A five-session program that assists youngsters, ages 8-16, whose parents, grandparents, siblings, relatives, or friends are currently cancer patients or have a serious medical condition.   • Young Person’s Grief Support Program. An 8-week series for young people ages 5-8, 9-13 and 14-17 who are grieving the loss of loved ones. Call Ben Wolfe, (218) 726-4402 to pre-register.
  • Adult Grief Support Groups. Several groups: Parent Support Groups, Senior Citizen Grief and Loss Support Group, Suicide Survivors Support Group, Infertility Support Group, and SIDS Support Group. Support group meetings are held twice a month. From 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. on the second Wednesday of the month and from 7 – 8:30 p.m. on the fourth Tuesday of every month.

IRIS offers parents, families, friends, and professionals support, education and resources on the death of a child in early pregnancy (ectopic pregnancy, molar pregnancy, miscarriage, etc) or from premature birth, stillbirth, neo-natal death, birth defects, sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS), illness, accidents and all other types of infant and early childhood death.
