AMERICAN INDIAN

Will assist with: pastoral care for support, building space for all night ceremony/wake/funeral, memorial cards, funeral food shelf, and hearse and volunteer drivers that will transport the deceased and family members up to 400 miles. They also provide a list of mortuaries, traditional prayer leaders, churches that serve Indian families, drum groups, numbers for various tribal headquarters in Minnesota and surrounding states, and questions/information that will be needed by the family. This organization provides all this information in a booklet they distribute free of charge.

Individual & family therapy specific to grief and loss run by psychologists. Also have a social worker with students who run groups.
Other services: testing for ADHD, ADD, etc. use EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization & Re-processing) for nightmares due to trauma
Financial Resources:
Programs funded through third party billing, Medical Assistance, sliding fee, or insurance. They will also provide transportation if needed to attend therapy or groups. There are no financial resources for burial costs, but this agency makes many referrals to services that do have funds.

Financial Resources:
Elders donate supplies for meal as traditionally individuals come together for a death. The community will also come together to provide the meal, but not provide actual cash. There are also resources available for funeral expenses.
JEWISH
Jewish Funeral Services of Minnesota: (952) 922-2610
Program generally makes referrals outside their organization for support.
Financial Resources:
Referrals made to the county or other appropriate resources that offer financially supportive services at the church/cemetery/chapel. This agency will also go out to the grieving family.
Jewish Family and Children Services: (multi-social service agency)

Offer individual counseling and some family, but not specific to grief and loss. (Their counseling is targeted to people grieving the loss of a spouse).
Financial Resources:
They offer counseling on a sliding fee, “no one is turned away.”
They don’t have financial resources for funeral or burial expenses.
They have what they call the “Jewish healing resource library.” This gives a Jewish and general perspective. They also have trained volunteers to visit with families who aren’t connected to support within the Jewish community (or any community) who will provide services such as transportation, visits, meals, etc. The volunteer program, resource library and clergy can all be reached at (952) 542-4840.

While they don’t offer support services, they make referrals to Jewish Family & Children Services. They offer help in applying for county assistance for funeral/burial expenses.
GENERAL RESOURCES
