Nutritional Consultations in the Hematology/Oncology Program

Cancer and blood disorders, and the medication to treat them, sometimes cause problems such as weight gain, weight loss, hypoglycemia, or an inability to properly absorb nutrients from food. In addition, children or teens who are under- or overweight when diagnosed may face unique challenges. Hematologists/oncologists work closely with dietitians to identify issues as early as possible. All inpatients are evaluated upon admission for nutritional needs or problems.
