Hospital-acquired infection
2007

Nosocomial infections are those infections that are transmitted to the patient in the hospital. The lowest birth weight patients are very susceptible to hospital-acquired infections. One or both of Children's hospitals' outcomes are worse than the VON average in each birth weight category.
This measure uses data from Vermont Oxford Network (VON). VON is a comprehensive comparative database of 632 hospitals that evaluates care and outcomes of 49,000 high-risk (birth weight < 1500 grams) neonates.
This measure is updated annually.
