Pharmacy Practice Residency Program
Children's of Minnesota consists of two campuses located in Minneapolis and St. Paul. Residents will gain experience at each campus during their residency. Children's is a major referral site for pediatric patients in the upper Midwest and is also affiliated with the University of Minnesota.
The pharmacy department provides comprehensive clinical services to meet the needs of patients and health care professionals.
The pharmacy practice residency at Children's is designed to provide the resident with a wide variety of clinical and professional experiences in pediatrics. Residents will complete required rotations and have approximately 5 months to complete elective learning experiences in areas of their interest.
Residents will complete a residency project, and participate in department initiatives, hospital committees, and clinical educational programs for patients/families and hospital staff. In addition to on-site educational programs, residents also have the opportunity to teach in a pediatric pharmacotherapy course at the University of Minnesota.
The purpose of our ASHP-approved pharmacy practice residency program is to provide experience and knowledge, which foster the development of skills to fulfill the challenges of evolving roles in pharmacy practice.
Residents completing the pharmacy practice residency program at Children’s shall be able to:
- Be effective, self-reliant practitioners providing pharmaceutical care to pediatric patients in multiple environments
- Provide professional leadership as a role model and demonstrate commitment to the pharmacy profession
- Function as a member of the health care team, demonstrating maturity and effective interpersonal skills
- Effectively educate other health professionals, students, patients and community regarding health care issues
- Conduct ongoing self-evaluation to continue to develop personal and professional skills
- Identify, collect and manage data to support clinical outcomes and research
