Orthopedic Sports Medicine Program
Youth sports and competitive dance across the United States are growing at a rapid pace. Grade school, junior high, and high school athletes are not only involved in organized school activities, but also competing within “elite” teams at younger and younger ages.
As a pediatric facility, Children’s Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota understands that treating athletic injuries and medical problems in growing children is quite different from treating adults. This clinic is one of the few in the country dedicated to the care of young athletes and primarily focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of sports related disorders.
The Sports Medicine Clinic is staffed by Dr. James Engels, MD, pediatric orthopedic surgeon, and a physical therapist. The clinic meets on both our Minneapolis and St. Paul campuses. The primary physical therapists staffing the clinic are Kevin Riddle, MPT, in St. Paul and Pamela Lundequam, DPT, in Minneapolis. At Children’s, we believe this team approach will help our patients quickly recover and get back in the game.
The Orthopedic Sports Medicine Clinic is held every Monday morning from 8 to noon in the Garden View Building at Children’s St. Paul campus and every Thursday morning from 8 to noon in the Children’s Speciality Center at Children’s Minneapolis campus. Call (651)220-5700 to schedule an appointment.
