Conditions That May Require Gynecology Surgery

Your child’s doctor may recommend surgery, laser surgery, or other gynecological procedures for a variety of conditions. Some of the most common gynecological conditions treated at Children’s are:

  • Cervical abnormalities (such as cervical agenesis)
  • Congenital abnormalities of the hymen (such as imperforate, microperforate, or septate hymen or hymenal skin tags)
  • Labial hypertrophy
  • Ovarian masses and cysts
  • Revision of female circumcision/mutilation procedures
  • Surgical repair of traumatic injuries
  • Vaginal abnormalities (such as agenesis of the lower vagina, transverse vaginal septum, longitudinal vaginal septum, or agenesis of the vagina)
  • Vulvar lesions/masses
  • Uterine abnormalities (such as uterine agenesis or obstructed uterine horns)
