Student Nurse Summer Internship

Q: What is my role as a Summer Nurse Intern at Children’s Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota?
A:
You will have the opportunity to further develop your nursing skills and critical thinking while working along side a pediatric RN.

Please note that due to the Minnesota State Nurse Practice Act regulations, there may be some restrictions in the care that students may provide.

Q: Do I need to enroll in an summer internship course at my school?
A:
Yes. The Minnesota Board of Nursing requires that summer interns be enrolled in a nursing internship course under the instruction of faculty licensed in MN. Please visit the Minnesota Board of Nursing website or contact your nursing faculty for more information.

If you attend college out of state, you may need to enroll in an internship course at a Minnesota college. Once you are offered an intern position, the internship program coordinator will assist you with this process.

Q: Which unit and shift will I be working?
A:
Your internship unit will be based on your experiences and desires. You will be informed of your internship unit when you are offered the position.

There will be many opportunities to observe in areas other than your internship unit

Your schedule will reflect that of your preceptor’s. You will receive more detailed information once you have accepted the position.

Q: When do I find out about my schedule?
A:
You will be notified about your specific schedule 4-6 weeks prior to your start date.

Q: When will I hear if I have been accepted to the program?
A:
Initial offers will be made to interns the week of February 15th. If a student declines an initial offer, more offers will be made the following week to fill all positions.
