Children’s Celebrates Nurses Week 2007

The Environment of Practice Committee of Children’s Nursing Department’s Professional Development Council has planned several activities in honor of National Nurses Week, May 6-12, 2007. We hope this week will be a memorable, meaningful opportunity to celebrate the profession and passion of all nurses at Children’s. The entire Children’s community is invited to celebrate the professional practice of all nurses at Children’s.

Here is a schedule of the activities:

Awards presentations

Please join us to celebrate and reflect on nursing as a profession and a passion. Awards will be presented to nurses who have demonstrated excellence as Leaders, Innovators, Partners in Quality Care, or Knowledge Seekers.

• Tuesday, May 8 at 2 p.m. in Garden View Medical Building, room 1053/1054, at Children’s - St. Paul
• Wednesday, May 9 at 2 p.m. in the Education Center at Children’s – Minneapolis
• Thursday, May 10 at 1:30 p.m. in the conference room at Children’s West.

Poster Presentations

Posters representing nursing involvement special projects or research will be displayed during the awards presentations on each campus.

Blessing of Hands

The chaplaincy staff will provide a “Blessing of Hands” at the two hospital campuses. The Blessing of Hands is a brief ritual which is not part of any one particular faith tradition but which symbolically recognizes how nurses and all staff participate in the work of healing and blessing others at Children’s.

• Monday through Friday, May 7 – 11, noon – 1 p.m. in the chapel at Children’s -Minneapolis (second floor hallway between the skyway and Tower) and at the first floor Welcome Center at Children’s - St. Paul.
• Tuesday, May 8 at Children’s - St. Paul from 6:30 – 8:30 a.m. and 2:30 - 4 p.m. at the Welcome Center and 7 a.m. - 5 p.m. in inpatient care areas.
• Wednesday, May 9 at Children’s - Minneapolis from 6:30 – 8:30 a.m. and 2:30 – 4 p.m. at the Welcome Center on second floor and 7 a.m. - 5 p.m. in inpatient care areas.

Nurses Appreciation Night at the Metrodome

Join Children’s nurses for Nurses Appreciation Night at the Twins vs. White Sox game on May 9, 2007, at 7:10 pm. Tickets for $18 can be purchased using the order form located on Star Net > Forms > Nurse Web or by directly contacting Melissa Meyer of the Twins at (612) 375-7447. Nurses should reference Nurses Appreciation Night and identify themselves as Children’s employees. Friends and family of Children’s nursing staff are also eligible for the discount. Attendees are encouraged to wear royal blue in support of nursing at Children’s.
