18 Hem/Onc Nurses Attend and Present at APHON Conference

Children’s Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota Hem/Onc nurses were well represented at the 32nd Annual Association of Pediatric Hematology Oncology Nurses (APHON) Conference in Albuquerque NM September 25th-27th. Eighteen nurses from the inpatient and outpatients areas attended. Six posters were accepted and displayed including:

1. Assessment of physical performance using the six-minute walk test in children receiving chemotherapy- Casey Hooke MS RN PhD(C)

2. Nursing Care Plan for a Child Receiving Chemoradiotherapy- Sofi Goerdt RN CPON, Micki Schwitzer RN CPON, Mary Langevin RN FNP CPON HN-BC

3. Development of management guidelines for osteonecrosis in children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia- Dawn Niess MS RN CPNP, Heather Quammen MA RN

4. Benadryl-Ativan-Decadron infusions for chemotherapy induced nausea and vomiting, Mylynda Livingston MS RN CPNP, Charlet Allen RPh BCOP, Sofi Goerdt RN, Teresa Mataloni RN, Maria Zarambo RPh, Casey Hooke MS RN CPON

5. Creating hematology oncology specific forms within an institutional electronic medical record. Linda Madsen RN CNP, Casey Hooke MS RN CPON

6. Evaluation of the current validity of the Lansky Play-Performance Scale. Casey Hooke MS RN CPON, Lynn Tanner MPT
