Congratulations to the 2009 National Nurses Week Award Winners
In celebration of national nurses week, Children’s Professional Development Council accepts nominations to recognize nurses for excellence they provide to patients, families, the hospital, and staff. The awards fall into four categories, including:
1) Partner
A nurse who works in collaboration with patients, families and colleagues to provide the safest care possible; provides individualized care; one who places the child and family first; one who promotes shared decision-making with the family; one who integrates all aspects of care.
2) Leader
A nurse who exemplifies leadership as an advocate for patient safety, nursing research, outreach, community advocacy or health policy; one who participates in local or national professional organizations; one who teaches and mentors colleagues; one who moves vision into action.
3) Knowledge Seeker
A nurse who embraces life-long learning; one who pursues professional development through participation in research, writing for publication, seeking measurable outcomes for the quality of care; one who integrates knowledge into evidence-based practice.
4) Innovator
A nurse who embraces creative problem solving; one who is able to manage change; one who is committed to improving care through innovation and technology; one who optimizes safety for patients, families and staff; one who champions performance improvement.
Along with the four categories listed above, the Medical Education department recognizes a nurse on the Minneapolis and St. Paul campuses for nursing excellence by giving two nurses the Medical Education Resident’s Award.
