Study: Health care providers penalized for patient hardships

Gretchen Cutler, scientific investigator at Children’s Minnesota, co-authored a study published in JAMA Pediatrics that found some hospitals face unfair penalties due to certain patient populations’ socioeconomic factors with pay-for-performance payment models. Anna Youngerman, senior director of advocacy and health policy at Children’s Minnesota, has hired new care coordinators who help families with legal, housing, education or transportation issues that may contribute to hindrances in medical care.  Read more from Minnesota Public Radio: Study: Health care providers penalized for patient hardships.
