Red-Vested Rockstar: Meet Julia
Why she rocks: “My love of helping children is what got me into volunteering. I am a freshman at the University of Minnesota, and I am interested in going into medicine, so why not combine two things I am interested in! Throughout my time at Children’s, my passion for healthcare has only grown. Volunteering isn’t something I have to do, it is something I love to do.”
What is your favorite thing to do outside of volunteering? “I love to travel, visit with my family, and to simply hang out with my friends. I also love to spend quiet time at my house with my family and play with my dogs.”
Do you have any kids or pets of your own? “I do! My family has two dogs, they are both standard poodles. Their names are Irene and Watson.”
If you could create a new candy bar, what would be in it and what would you name it? “I have no idea what I would name it! It would likely be Samoa’s flavored and smothered in chocolate!”
Share a favorite volunteer experience or story: “I have been volunteering at Children’s for some time now, and in multiple units including the Emergency Department, Epilepsy unit, Neuroscience floor, and in the surgery department. I have many amazing memories, and some images that I will never forget. My favorite thing is when I leave and feel like I made a difference, no matter how small.
When I am able to get kids or parents to open up and feel safe is another of my favorite things! Simply sitting and actively listening to them… I’ve found that even that these little things make a difference.”
