Sasha GekhtRed-Vested Rockstar: Meet Sasha

Why she rocks: “I’m currently a junior at Eastview High School and started volunteering because I wanted to get exposure to what being a volunteer meant. Children’s was a great fit for me because I felt like I was really making a difference in the lives of the kids and families I was interacting with. I love being able to come in every week and meet someone new!”

What is your favorite thing to do outside of volunteering? “I love to volunteer as a hobby, but outside of that, I like spending time with my friends – especially when I don’t have school. I also enjoy watching movies and traveling!”

Do you have any kids or pets of your own? “I don’t have any pets but I did own a beta fish for a couple of years!”

If you could create a new candy bar, what would be in it and what would you name it? “If I could create a candy bar it would definitely have lots of chocolate and peanut butter and I would call it ‘Chocolate Peanut Bar’.”

Share a favorite volunteer experience or story: “My favorite volunteering experience was a couple of months ago. I was playing with a young patient in his crib while a nurse came and checked on him. He started getting fussy and the nurse was trying to distract him with toys but it was hard to multitask so I was asked to help. It felt really great to not only be able to distract the patient and make him feel more comfortable, but to also help out the staff since they’re always so busy and put so much effort into what they do.”
