T1D profile: Madison amazing at dance, academics

Madison Bates is a member of the Hudson Raidaires dance team.

Madison Bates is a junior at Hudson (Wis.) High School who does an amazing job handling type 1 diabetes. But she’s amazing at a lot of other things, too!

Madison is a member of her school’s dance team, the Hudson Raidaires, and proud to be a part of the squad’s top-five finishes at the state competition the past two years. This year she performed her first dance solo representing the Raidaires and was named first-team all-conference. Madison is starting to look at colleges and hopes to dance on a university team.

Madison received her third academic achievement pin and plays flute in the top wind ensemble in band. She loves to volunteer through a program called Youth Action Hudson and currently is working on a peer-to-peer counseling project about stress for seventh-graders. She also participates in fundraisers and trials for diabetes research. And with all of that, she tries to be a great big sister to her 8-year-old brother!

Proceeds from the 25th annual Children’s Star Gala on April 16 support the diabetes and endocrinology program at Children’s Minnesota.
