After spending his first 549 days of life at Children’s Minnesota, Connor Matteson finally joined twin sister Eliana at home — where he belonged. This was an unlikely outcome for Connor, who was born at 27 weeks’ gestation with severe lung disease.
Eliana also had a rocky start. Born with a congenital heart defect, she was 5 months old before going home. Now with both kids thriving, parents Doug and Shira are immensely grateful. Families like theirs often find healing in giving back. Between participating in Baby Steps 3K, peer-to-peer fundraising, and sponsoring artwork in the cardiovascular care center, the Mattesons have celebrated their kids and the care they received in meaningful ways.
