Children’s Minnesota makes history with open fetal surgery

Children’s Minnesota doctors performed one of the first successful open fetal surgeries ever on a fetal pericardial teratoma, a tumor on the heart of the fetus. An incision in the mother’s uterus allowed surgeons to remove nearly 90 percent of the tumor, which was the size of an orange and approximately four times the size of baby’s heart.
