Dr. Robert Tibesar on patient’s remarkable recovery after airway reconstruction surgery

Dr. Robert Tibesar, a pediatric otolaryngologist, spoke with KSTP-TV regarding three-year-old Zoey Ellis, a patient with congenital high airway obstruction syndrome (CHAOS), a rare condition that causes the voice box to fuse shut. Zoey recently had successful airway reconstruction surgery in Cincinnati to remove and repair the block in her airway. Dr. Tibesar commented that it’s truly remarkable that her vocal chords work after this surgery, as they had not worked in the past. Zoey will return to Children’s Minnesota every four to six weeks to be monitored. Watch the full story: Zoey’s Voice: Girl with rare disorder speaks for the first time.
