The 27th annual Great Clips cut-a-thon will take place from Saturday, August 24, through Friday, August 30. Select Twin Cities Great Clips salons are participating by donating a portion of proceeds from each haircut to support the school re-entry program at Children’s Minnesota. This program helps kids with cancer and other serious illnesses go back to school with confidence. The Great Clips cut-a-thon has raised $1.6M for the school re-entry program to date.
Children’s school re-entry program helps address the medical and emotional needs of a child returning to school after battling serious illnesses. The program helps educate classmates, teachers and parents. Services often include providing resource materials, phone consultations and/or a visit to the school by a child life specialist. Designed for flexibility, the program tailors its services to meet the needs of each child and family.
This year’s cut-a-thon is held in memory of Brett Wieber, who recently passed away at the age of 33 after a long battle with cancer. The annual cut-a-thon started 27 years ago when local Great Clips franchisee and real estate agent, Regina Finkelstein, helped Brett’s parents, Margi and Dean, find a home. Brett was battling cancer, so Regina decided to start the cut-a-thon to raise funds for Children’s Minnesota. After the first year, the school re-entry program was founded.
“When I met Margi and Dean, I was struck by their story and knew I had to do something to help families like theirs,” said Finkelstein. “Brett fought a long and hard battle and was a joy to know, and I and my fellow Great Clips franchisees are honored to hold this year’s cut-a-thon in his memory.”
In addition, throughout the month of August, Great Clips customers can purchase a cardboard backpack for a donation of a $1 or more, and receive a coupon for $2 off their next Great Clips haircut. Each location will also collect donations.
Locate the salon nearest to you and call ahead to confirm they’re participating in the cut-a-thon.
