How to fundraise on your social media channels

Recently, some social media platforms have added ways for you to raise money for nonprofits and causes of your choice. So far, you can ask your friends and followers on Facebook and Instagram to donate to your cause. Here are some ways you can help raise money for Children’s Minnesota:

Facebook fundraisers

You can create Facebook fundraisers for yourself, someone else or for another cause that’s important to you. It’s very simple to start a Facebook fundraiser, and Facebook will help you and give you tips to help reach your goal. Here are the steps to take to start a Facebook fundraiser for Children’s Minnesota:

  1. Go to this page on Facebook
  2. Click the “Select Nonprofit” button at the top of the page and type Children’s Minnesota in the search bar and select it.
  3. Fill out the fundraiser information on the following page. We offer pre-filled answers but feel free to write your own!
  4. Click the “Create” button!

Here is a step-by-step guide for making a Facebook fundraiser.

Facebook donate button

You can also raise money through the donate button on Facebook. Here’s how:

  1. Go to facebook.com, click “What’s on your mind?” on your News Feed or timeline. From here there are two different ways you can add the donate button to your post.

Option 1:

  1. Tag Children’s Minnesota in your post. Do this by typing in @Children’s Minnesota, our name and logo will pop up.
  2. Once tagged, click “post.”
  3. Once posted, click “Add button” to confirm you want to add a donate button to your post.
  4. Your post will then update to say “[Your name] is asking for donations.” People will be able to click the donate button on your post and donate money to Children’s Minnesota.

Here is a step-by-step guide for this option to add a Facebook donate button to your post.

Option 2:

  1. Click the yellow smile emoji or the “Feeling/Activity” button. Switch from Feelings to Activities. Scroll down and click the “Supporting…” option. Once clicked, type in “Children’s Minnesota” in the search bar and our name will pop up, click it.
  2. Write a caption (if you want) and click “Post.”
  3. Once posted, click “Add button” to confirm you want to add a donate button to your post.
  4. Your post will then update to say “[Your name] is supporting Children’s Minnesota.” People will be able to click the Donate button on your post and donate money to Children’s Minnesota.

Here is a step-by-step guide for a second option to add a Facebook donate button to your post.

Instagram donation sticker

When you share a photo or video to your Instagram story, you can add a sticker to it as well. You can use the donation sticker to raise money for the nonprofit of your choice. Here’s how:

  1. Open your Instagram app. In the top left corner you will see your profile picture with a blue plus button next to it and the words “Your Story” underneath it. Click it and a new page will open.
  2. Click the button that looks like this: Aa on the left-hand side of your app. It will say ‘Create’ next to it.
  3. In the bottom, a circle will be around the Aa button. Slide the circle over until you see a heart titled ‘Donations.’
  4. Tap where it prompts you to and type in ‘Children’s Minnesota’ in the search bar. Select.
  5. Once your post is as you want it, you can upload it to your story in two different ways:
    1. Click the circle in the bottom left corner that is your profile picture with the text that says “Your Story” and this will be uploaded to your story!
    2. You can also select the “Send To” button in the bottom right corner then select “Your Story.” This is another way to upload your photo to your story.
