Policy update: transitioning to adult heath care

Children’s Minnesota and Partners in Pediatrics primary care clinics are no longer accepting new patients aged 18+. Existing patients will need to transition to adult care by age 22. We encourage you to consult your clinician for transitioning assistance. Go here for additional information. Your understanding is greatly appreciated.

Sick care

Minor illnesses and injuries can come up quickly. For your convenience, we offer same-day help for those unexpected needs at our clinics.

  • Walk-in care – Walk-in care is offered at most of our primary care locations. (Walk-in care is called Ready Care at some locations.) Please note that we may close walk-in care early due to increased patient volume.
  • Same-day sick appointments – Many of our primary care locations offer same-day appointment times for existing patients (West St. Paul Clinic allows new patients). Please call ahead to schedule these appointments.

Virtual visits

Clinics may also offer online virtual visits so you can receive care from the comfort of your home. When scheduling your appointment, ask if virtual care is available.

Well-child check-ups, sports physicals and immunizations

We encourage annual check-ups to track your child’s growth and development, to be a resources for behavior concerns, and partner with you to raise healthy children. Find more resources here.

When to use walk-in care or same-day appointments

Consider using walk-in care if your child has a symptom listed below that started recently and is of a non-severe nature. New patients are welcome for walk-in care if their child has any of the symptoms listed below.

  • Common cough or cold
  • Fever
  • Vomiting and diarrhea
  • Rash
  • Pinkeye
  • Minor injuries
  • Ear pain
  • Sore throat
  • Wheezing or acute asthma
  • Possible urinary tract infection
  • Sinus infection

When to make a pre-scheduled appointment instead

Note that not all visits are appropriate for walk-in care. If your child needs a well-child exam, has ongoing symptoms such as stomachaches and headaches, or special or complex health care needs, please call for an appointment so we can schedule an appropriate amount of time to address those needs.

If you have any questions about walk-in care services, or would like our help in determining the best appointment type for your child, please call the clinic.
