We are pleased to announce that effective May 22, 2020, Timothy A Lander, MD, has accepted the position of medical director of Children’s Minnesota ENT and Facial Plastic Surgery.
Dr. Lander joined the professional staff at Children’s Minnesota in 2002, first as a partner at Pediatric ENT Associates and later as a member of Children’s Minnesota Employed Physicians. Together with his mentors Dr. James Sidman and Dr. Frank Rimell, he helped build Minnesota’s first and only specialty practice devoted exclusively to ear, nose, and throat care for children.
He is an assistant professor of pediatric otolaryngology in the Department of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery at the University of Minnesota and until recently was the moderator of the Department’s monthly morbidity and mortality conferences. He has previously served as Children’s Minnesota vice chief of surgery and as a member at large on the Credentials Committee.
Since its 2002 inception, Dr. Lander has been an integral mentor in our pediatric ENT and facial plastic surgery fellowship program which is proudly training its 18th fellow this year. Our former fellows are practicing all around the country in both academic and private practices.
In addition to his interest in clinical medicine, Dr. Lander has a background in software engineering and database design. He currently chairs the Children’s Minnesota Health Information Management (HIM) Committee and its Medical Rules Subcommittee. His committee work has focused on improving EMR functionality and improving patient safety with electronic-based treatment guidance. He is particularly interested in advancing quality improvement and patient satisfaction initiatives throughout Children’s Minnesota.
Dr. Lander attended medical school at University of Minnesota and completed otolaryngology residency at University of California San Diego Medical Center. He went on to complete his pediatric otolaryngology fellowship at Children’s Minnesota and the University of Minnesota.
Children’s Minnesota ENT and Facial Plastic Surgery program diagnoses and treats routine and complex conditions in infants, children and teenagers. It is the only pediatric ENT program in the state dedicated exclusively to kids with disorders of the head and neck. Our program provides a full range of ENT and facial plastic and reconstructive surgery services, including prenatal counseling, advanced imaging, cochlear implants, and innovative surgeries for cleft and craniofacial issues. Children’s Minnesota is verified as a Level I Children’s Surgery Center by the American College of Surgeons (ACS) Children’s Surgery Verification Quality Improvement Program. The program has robust clinical, research and educational components with a nationally renowned fellowship. It maintains a strong and active clinical and academic affiliation with the Department of Otolaryngology at the University of Minnesota.
