Revolutionary CT scanner added to Minneapolis medical imaging department to support Children’s Minnesota cardiovascular imaging

Children’s Minnesota’s medical imaging and cardiovascular program recently installed the NAEOTOM Alpha® (Alpha) with Quantum Technology – the world’s first photon-counting computed tomography (CT) for clinical use. It is designed for cardiovascular, neurological, pediatric, functional and acute care imaging. There are only 20 Alpha systems installed worldwide and Children’s Minnesota is one of the first pediatric hospitals to install the system.

About Alpha

The new Alpha technology allows surgeons to see the whole heart in 3-D moving images before they operate, which improves surgery success and patient survival outcomes. The images provide impressive details that allow the health care team to visualize small lesions and provide high diagnostic confidence in cardiology, oncology and pulmonology. The speed and likelihood of accurate diagnosis with images by Alpha can increase the success of treatment and patient survival.

Alpha also offers a reduction in the radiation dose by up to 45% making it safer for both patients and staff. This technology is the future of pediatric healthcare and precision medicine and is available to Children’s Minnesota’s patients now.
