Personal Biography

Mrunalini D. Parvataneni, M.D., is a pediatric ophthalmologist at Northwest Eye, specializing in general pediatric eye care as well as complex pediatric eye conditions, such as pediatric cataracts. She also provides treatment of amblyopia and is one of only a few doctors in the state specializing in the surgical and medical treatment of strabismus (eye alignment), both for children and adults. Dr. Parvataneni was born in India and grew up in Jamaica, where she went to med school at age 17. She completed her doctoral studies at the University of the West Indies, her internship at Wayne State University, her residency at State University of New York, and her fellowship at the University of Minnesota. She has been an active part of Northwest Eye's respected team of doctors for over 15 years. In her spare time, Dr. Parvataneni enjoys vegetarian cooking from all over the world, exercise, spending time with her children, ages 15 and 13, and, to her surprise, recently learned to love downhill skiing! Dr. Parvataneni's passions for helping children maintain and improve their eye health stems in part from having strabismus surgery herself as a child. After seeing first-hand the impact treatment of this condition and others like it can have on a child's life, she knew at an early age that this was her calling.
