Personal Biography
Karen Mathias has been the Director of Children's Simulation Center since its inception in 2007. She led the development of the first mobile simulation center in the country dedicated solely to pediatric and neonatal training, and more recently led Children's Simulation Center to its achievement of accreditation status in 2015 in the areas of teaching and systems integration. Karen is an advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) for the Critical Care Division at Children's of Minnesota focusing on resuscitation, team performance, and early recognition efforts. Karen is involved in multiple simulation based research efforts related to resuscitation, team performance and communication. Karen received her master's in pediatric critical care nursing from the University of Pennsylvania and is certified as an APRN Pediatric Clinical Nurse Specialist (P-CNS, BC). Karen has pursued specialized training from Stanford's Center for Pediatric Education (CAPE) in simulation and debriefing and has completed her Certified Master TeamSTEPPS Trainer program at the University of Minnesota. She has presented widely both regionally and nationally.
