The Type of Therapy field defaults to Acute for all prescriptions, excluding those prescriptions in a PowerPlan.
Note: This does not apply to the Emergency department or surgical areas.
If prescribing a maintenance medication, change the selection to Maintenance in the Type of Therapy field.
- Acute medications do not display in the patient’s med history with the stop/date/time.
- Maintenance medications remain on the patient’s med history.
If you make modifications to an acute type of therapy prescription with durations, please note the following:
- Always modify the Duration field.
- The prescription will automatically update the Dispense field and the Stop Date/Time field.
- Do not adjust the Stop Date/Time field.
- Modifying the stop/date time will not update either the Dispense field or the Duration field.
- This may result in incorrect patient education.
