Link to Hazardous Drug Precautions Tables Available in the MAR

Effective December 1, 2023

United States Pharmacopeia, chapter 800, is our nation’s first set of authoritative standards on the handling of hazardous drugs by health care professionals. USP 800 was developed due to the many dangerous and documented effects that hazardous drugs have on healthcare personnel during occupational exposure. Children’s Minnesota is held responsible to the USP 800 guidelines by the FDA, Joint Commission and Minnesota State Board of Pharmacy.

In accordance with changes due to USP 800, effective December 1, a new Reference Manual link will be available in the MAR to access the Hazardous Drugs Precautions tables.

In the MAR, each hazardous drug will be labeled indicating its level of hazard:

  • Hazardous Drug High
  • Hazardous Drug Moderate
  • Hazardous Drug Reproductive

To locate the Hazardous Drugs Precautions table for a hazardous drug:

  1. Select the hazardous drug in the MAR.
  2. Right-click, and select Reference Manual.

3. Select the Reference tab.
4. Click the HD High Handling Precaution hyperlink.

5. This opens the appropriate Hazardous Drug Precautions Table for the specific drug.
