Children’s Minnesota patient volunteers at St. Paul hospital

Seventeen-year-old Yesica Mercado was inspired to volunteer at Children’s St. Paul campus because of the impact hospital volunteers made on her when she was in the hospital six years ago after being diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. Yesica loves painting, reading and playing with patients to lift their spirits. She told KSTP-TV that she wanted to volunteer because she understands what it’s like to be in the hospital as a child.
