Medical services, pharmacy claims and billing delays

Change Healthcare, a company that provides our claim and payment management software, reported a cybersecurity incident on Feb. 21, 2024. As a result, many pharmacies and hospitals, including Children’s Minnesota, have experienced impacts.

What you need to know about medical bills

  • Bills for medical services will be delayed.  
    • This is because the cyberattack prevented us from electronically submitting medical claims and receiving payments.  
  • We are working to restore our regular claim and payment processing.  
  • If you have questions, call the Children’s Minnesota billing office at 952-992-5650. 

What you need to know about prescriptions at Children’s Minnesota pharmacies

  • This disruption resulted in prescription claims timing out/failing.  
  • Most issues regarding prescriptions sent from Children’s Minnesota providers to Children’s Minnesota pharmacies have been resolved. 
  • Prescriptions sent from Children’s Minnesota providers to external pharmacies have been affected to varying degrees, depending on what claim and payment management software they use. Because of this… 
    • Your prescriptions may take longer to fill. 
    • Your pharmacy may be unable to bill your insurance during this time.

What you need to know about fraudulent calls

Threat actors, who are likely not the same people who committed the initial cyberattack, are taking advantage of the situation and calling hospitals, providers and families posing as Change Healthcare, United Health Group, Optum or other health systems attempting to collect information by requesting data or credit card information.   

If you receive a suspicious call, text or email from Change Healthcare, United Health Group, Optum or any other third party do NOT provide information to these callers. Hang up immediately and report the call to the Minnesota Department of Commerce by calling 1-888-372-8366 or reporting online 

What’s next

Change Healthcare has not provided a timeline for when all services will be restored. In the meantime, we are finding workarounds and other solutions to the issues at hand. Providing remarkable patient care remains our top priority and has not been impacted by these disruptions.
