Volunteer Recognition Week Profile: Barb Perfect

Barb Perfect Barb Perfect

Where do you volunteer, and how long have you been volunteering?

I have been a volunteer for the past six months.  I volunteer for three hours every Monday in the float position with inpatients.  I also help out with the Geek Squad Bingo through the Star Studio (Family Services).

What is your educational/career background?

I have a bachelor’s degree in elementary education, which I have used in teaching kindergarten and middle school students for a few years before becoming a full-time stay-at-home mom for my two children over the past eleven years!  I have recently become interested in the child life profession, as well.

What brought you to Children’s as a volunteer?

I felt the need to give back some of the care and support that was given to my family when my children needed surgery.  I also feel a sense of accomplishment and joy when I work with children and families.  I felt that volunteering at Children’s Hospital would give me the opportunity to help families and children along with gaining some hospital experience, as well.

What kinds of things do you enjoy doing when you’re not volunteering?

I enjoy spending time with my husband, Dan, and our children, Jenna and Jacob.  We love to watch our children participate in sports, and we love to camp!  I also really love to scrapbook in my spare time (which doesn’t seem to be a lot)!

What do you enjoy most about volunteering?

The thing that makes volunteering most enjoyable for me is knowing that I am helping those children and families who really need it the most!

Thank you, Barb, for all that you do as a volunteer here at Children’s!
