Theraworx® Protect Cloths

What are Theraworx® Protect cloths?

Theraworx® Protect cloths are one-use throw-away wipes to help kill germs on skin. The wipes are moistened with nourishing products including silver, allantoin, aloe, and Vitamin E. The skin is a constant source of germs and your child is at increased risk of infection while in the hospital. Use these cloths as instructed to help protect your child’s skin.

When should you NOT use these cloths?

Do not use these cloths if your child:

  • Has an allergy to silver
  • Weighs less than 1500 grams
  • Is receiving Thiotepa treatment or radiation therapy on the day of use
  • Has a diagnosis of Graft vs. Host or Epidermolysis Bullosa
  • Has large open wounds or non-intact burned skin

How do I use the cloths?

Before you begin, your nurse will provide you with the right number of cloths and tell you where to use them on your child (see chart below).  These cloths are kept in a warmer to improve patient comfort during the bath.

Follow these steps:

  1. Remove any stool from your child’s bottom before wiping with Theraworx® Protect cloths.
  2. If your child is visibly soiled, perform a soap and water bath first.
  3. Wash your hands with warm soapy water or use hand sanitizer before beginning bath.
  4. Theraworx® Protect cloths are for external use only. Do not use cloths on the mouth, eyes, or inside of ears.
  5. Wipe with the cloths using a circular or back and forth motion over the skin with special attention to the neck, under the arms, and groin areas.
  6. The skin may be wet for a few minutes after bathing. DO NOT rinse skin after a bath. Allow to air dry. Do not towel off skin.
  7. Check to see that Theraworx® Protect doesn’t stay wet between the skin folds on the neck or other places on the body.
  8. Discard dry cloths in the trash. Do not flush cloths.

Can I touch my child after the bath?

Yes. This bath is given to help reduce germs on the skin. This is not a sterile preparation.

What else do I need to know?

  • You can do a soap and water bath immediately before a Theraworx® Protect bath, but you should NOT do a soap and water bath after a Theraworx® Protect bath.
  • There are no lotions or soaps that harmfully interact with Theraworx® Protect baths.
