Diagnosis Code for Gender Dysphoria

An offensive term (Transsexualism) for diagnosis code F64.0 has been displaying in patient facing fields. Seeing this term is harmful and offensive to gender-expansive patients. When choosing an option for F64.0, select the appropriate choice of Gender dysphoria for the patient.

There is limited ability to update the system until the ICD11 update (possibly 5 years for US to adopt and implement, date TBD) in which the offensive term is removed completely as a diagnosis code. The offensive term has been moved to the last choice for the diagnosis code F64.0 and an alert will fire prompting the user to change to Gender dysphoria if the offensive term is selected.

Keep in mind that due to hard coded pathways, the offensive term may still display in select EMR fields that are not patient facing; for example, the Clinical Dx field.
