Cerner Standard Banner Bar

The Cerner Standard Banner Bar will display for hospital nursing positions (RN, UOC and CSA). This brings standardization across the organization to ensure all positions are viewing the same information. The majority of changes are aesthetic. Pertinent information is still present but may be in a slightly different location with some new added features.

Note: Click here for further information on the new Pronouns and Name Pronunciation fields.

Some of the highlighted Banner Bar changes include:

  • Allergies: A list of allergies will now display. Click to add, modify, or remove allergies.
  • Admission/Discharge date and time: Now displays admission and discharge date and time directly in the Cerner Standard Banner Bar.
  • Pronouns/Name Pronunciation: Patient preferred pronouns and pronunciation fields will now display on the Banner Bar.
  • Admin Sex is now Legal Sex. Birth Sex is required. If Birth Sex is different than Legal Sex, an i icon displays. Clicking the icon will open a window that displays both Legal Sex and Birth Sex.
  • Hover: Hover over banner bar sections to display more detailed information.
For example, hover on Weight or Dosing Weight to view last documented date and time. Weight now pulls in last charted weight across encounters.
  • Color is no longer available on the banner bar.
Note: Dosing weight will no longer display in red for 24 hours after it has changed.
  • Ellipses (…): The ellipses indicate more information is available. Hover to see additional information.
  • Name, MRN, Date of Birth, and Age: Click to view additional demographic information.
  • Acct: Click to display additional encounter details (i.e. location and bed number, date, status) or select a different encounter from the list.
  • Outside Records: Either CommonWell or Record Exchange will display in the banner bar depending on CommonWell enrollment status. Both are clickable links in the Banner Bar that will bring up the Record Locations page.

Note: Only positions that have access to Records Location in the Table of Contents will see and be able to interact with this option in the Banner Bar.

  • SmartZone in the Banner Bar: SmartZone provides noncritical notifications in a manner that does not disrupt your workflow, allowing you to view patient-relevant items and take action on them as needed. Alerts will display in the Banner Bar and remain a notification until the item is addressed.
    • If you can take action on a notification, the notification displays as a link.
    • Click the link to address the notification. The appropriate section of the chart displays.
    • Click collapse (>) to collapse the SmartZone Panel.
    • Nursing positions will see height and weight alerts in Smart Zone. Alerts will still fire as Discern Alerts during this transition.
    • Additional alerts will be added to Smart Zone in the future.
