Donor Spotlights

Vince Opheim

Vince began his involvement with Children’s Minnesota over 16 years ago as a volunteer. His connection deepened in 2012 when he became Children’s mascot, Twinkle, volunteering in this role at countless Foundation fundraising and other community events. Vince continues to volunteer at our hospitals weekly, gives regularly, hosts an annual fundraising event, and has generously chosen to leave Children’s as a beneficiary in his will. “I give because I believe in Children’s and what they do. I get to experience everything that Children’s is doing to assist the most amazing people (children) I know and their families.”

Jessica and Jacob Persson

After giving birth, Jessica and Jacob Persson learned that their daughter, Berkley, had a congenital heart defect. Berkley underwent surgery at Children’s Minnesota to successfully repair two holes in her heart. Today, she is a spunky, spirited little girl who Jessica describes as a “handful.” The Perssons give back by participating in Walk for Amazing where they—along with family and friends of Berkley’s Buddies crew—raise more than $1,000 each year for Children’s. “We give to Children’s because they saved our daughter’s life and we want to ensure other families receive the same care and support we did.”

The Lorsung family

The Lorsung family’s relationship with Children’s began when Duane and Patricia’s son, Chad, was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia at 3 years old. Chad was treated at Children’s St. Paul by Dr. Jack Priest, who the Lorsungs attribute to saving Chad’s life. Now in his 30s, Chad is cancer-free and lives year-round on a boat in Texas near his sister and guardian, Amie. The Lorsung family gives annually and have included Children’s Minnesota in their estate plans. “We are overwhelmed with the care we received for our son. Dr. Jack Priest and the clinicians at Children’s are true heroes!”
