Congratulations to James Burroughs, vice president, chief equity and inclusion officer at Children’s Minnesota, for being selected as one of Minnesota Lawyer’s Diversity and Inclusion Awards honorees for 2021!
The Minnesota Lawyer-Diversity & Inclusion Awards recognizes groups and individuals who have made a significant impact with respect to diversity and inclusion on the greater community or within their organizations. The honorees were chosen by an independent panel based on their achievements and their commitment to the Minnesota diversity and inclusion community.
James joined Children’s Minnesota as the first chief equity and inclusion officer in January 2019, and is now vice president and chief equity and inclusion officer, responsible for advancing equity and inclusion in all parts of the organization. His key focus areas include patient quality initiatives, employee recruitment and retention strategies and organizational culture. His work also focuses on increasing financial investment and spend with diverse businesses and supporting initiatives that address the social determinants of health for patients and families.
Prior to Children’s Minnesota, James served in the Office of Minnesota Gov. Mark Dayton, where he was the State of Minnesota’s first chief inclusion officer. He began his career as an attorney, holding faculty roles at Hamline University’s School of Law and the University of Minnesota’s School of Law. He practiced law at the United States Office of the Federal Defender and Dorsey & Whitney LLP.
As a 2021 honoree, James’ work will be profiled in the Diversity and Inclusion magazine and honored at an awards celebration on Oct. 7. The full list of honorees can be found here.
Please join us in congratulating James and the other honorees on this remarkable achievement!
