New grad RN training: Transition to Practice Program
Children’s Minnesota offers a unique Transition to Practice Program designed to support newly licensed nurses to the professional nursing environment using combinations of didactic and precepted clinical experiences. We provide a welcoming environment and extra support for the transition from academia to practice.
ANCC Practice Transition Accreditation Program® (PTAP)
Transition to Practice Program is accredited with distinction as a Practice Transition Program by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation in Practice Transition Programs.
The current sites included in this accreditation with distinction designation are:
- Children’s Minnesota – Minneapolis Campus
- Children’s Minnesota – St. Paul Campus
- The Mother Baby Center at Mercy with Children’s Minnesota
The current practice settings included in this accreditation with distinction designation are:
- Medical-Surgical
- Critical Care
- Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
- Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)
- Operating Room
- Emergency Department
How to apply
The Transition to Practice program will be offered in several sessions throughout the year. Interested candidates should watch for “Transition to Practice Program – New Grad RN” postings on our website careers page.
Students may apply prior to graduation, provided they will have an active Minnesota RN license prior to the program start date. Candidates may continue to apply for this program for up to one year after graduation.

Application FAQs
Are Transition to Practice RNs hired to specific units?
Yes. During the application process, recruiters will ask about candidate’s department preferences, and schedule interviews based on those preferences.
Are the hours spent in the Transition to Practice Program paid?
Yes, all hours spent in the Transition to Practice Program are paid at the nurse’s normal rate of pay.

What if I don’t get hired the first time I apply?
Interested candidates are encouraged to reapply during the next application period. Newly licensed nurses with less than 12 months’ experience are eligible to apply for TTP.
