Congratulations to Dr. Kris Catrine, medical director of Children’s Minnesota’s pain, palliative care and integrative medicine department, for being awarded with the Children’s Minnesota Family Advisory Council’s (FAC) Excellence in Patient-and Family- Centered Care (EPFCC) Award! Dr. Catrine is the first back-to-back recipient of the EPFCC Award; she was also recognized last year.
FAC developed the EPFCC Award as a way for patient families to recognize and honor Children’s Minnesota providers who demonstrate an outstanding commitment to patient- and family-centered care.
Nominating families are asked to describe how their nominee delivered patient-and family-centered care in relation to four core concepts: dignity and respect, information sharing, participation and collaboration.
Dr. Catrine was surprised on her unit in Minneapolis when she was presented with the EPFCC Award.

Melissa Moos nominated Dr. Catrine for the outstanding care she provided to Melissa’s daughter during their stay at Children’s Minnesota in Minneapolis. In her nomination, Melissa shared, “Dr. Catrine is the most caring doctor we have ever had.”
Not only did Dr. Catrine provide care for Melissa’s daughter, but she also took steps to make sure the whole family was ok. She helped them make every day count and was always available to talk and triage care.
“She helped us through incredibly hard situations,” Melissa said. “Dr. Catrine took the time to go over every pro and con of treatments offered,” providing the family the ability to make informed decisions.
The Moos family not only recognized the quality of care provided by Dr. Catrine, but also other staff on the pain, palliative care and integrative medicine team. Melissa said, “I do not know where we would be without them.”
