Great Clips hosts 29th annual cut-a-thon to support Children’s Minnesota’s school re-entry program

MINNEAPOLIS (August 25, 2022) – Great Clips salons in the Twin Cities area are joining together for the 29th annual Great Clips cut-a-thon from Saturday, Aug. 27 to Friday, Sept. 2. Participating Great Clips salons will donate a portion of the proceeds from each haircut during the event to the school re-entry program at Children’s Minnesota. The program helps address the medical and emotional needs of a child returning to school after battling cancer or other serious illnesses.

“As the kid experts, Children’s Minnesota knows that caring for kids fighting serious illnesses extends beyond our clinical facilities and into their homes and classrooms. Our school re-entry program works closely with patients, their families and school to help ensure their transition back to the classroom is as seamless as possible, and students understand the challenges their classmate is going through,” said Jennifer Soderholm, chief development officer and president of the Children’s Minnesota Foundation. “For three decades, Great Clips has generously supported this vital program that has made it possible for countless kids to smoothly transition back to their studies.”

The cut-a-thon began 30 years ago when local Great Clips franchisee Regina Finkelstein, also a real estate agent, was helping a family with a child battling cancer find a home. Touched by the family’s story, Regina decided to start the cut-a-thon to raise funds for Children’s Minnesota. After the first year, the school re-entry program was founded and the cut-a-thons have raised more than $1.7 million to-date. Tragically, Brett Weiber, the person who inspired the cut-a-thon decades ago, passed away in 2019 at the age of 33.

“Brett Weiber’s memory continues to make a positive impact on generations of kids who are battling similar serious diagnoses like he did as a child. With every dollar raised during the cut-a-thon, we can make a difference in making sure these kids have a positive experience returning to school,” said Finkelstein. “Great Clips is proud to support the school re-entry program at Children’s Minnesota, and I’m grateful to all of the salons participating in this year’s cut-a-thon.”
