Great Clips hosts 30th annual cut-a-thon to support Children’s Minnesota’s school re-entry program

Great Clips® salons will hold cut-a-thon Aug. 26-Sept. 1 to fundraise for kids returning to school after serious illness

MINNEAPOLIS (August 24, 2023) – Children’s Minnesota and Great Clips® are thrilled to announce the launch of the 30th annual Great Clips cut-a-thon that takes place from Saturday, Aug. 26 through Friday, Sept. 1. During this time, participating Great Clips salons throughout the Twin Cities and western Wisconsin will donate a portion of the proceeds from each haircut to support the pediatric health care system’s school re-entry program. Over the last three decades, Great Clips has raised more than $1.7 million exclusively for this program that helps address the medical and emotional needs of Children’s Minnesota patients returning to school after battling cancer or other serious illnesses.

“As the kid experts, Children’s Minnesota will always put our patients first in all phases of their care journey, especially their transition back to the classroom. Our school re-entry program strives to make their return to campus as smooth as possible by working side-by-side with our patients, their families and school to help ensure the child has the support they need and their classmates understand the challenges they are going through,” said Jennifer Soderholm, chief development officer and president of the Children’s Minnesota Foundation. “This year’s inspiring milestone anniversary of the Great Clips cut-a-thon is a testament to both of our organizations’ commitment to serving our region’s children.”

The cut-a-thon began when local Great Clips franchisee and real estate agent Regina Finkelstein was helping a family with a child battling cancer find a home. Touched by the family’s story, Regina and other Great Clips franchisees worked together to start the cut-a-thon to raise funds for Children’s Minnesota. After the first year, the school re-entry program was founded.

“Reflecting over the last 30-plus years of the Great Clips cut-a-thon, it has always been my hope that this event has been able to ease the challenges so many kids and their families have faced during their return to school. I’m grateful for the countless customers, stylists, franchisees and others who have supported this event for so long,” said Finkelstein. “Great Clips is proud to be a long-standing supporter of the school re-entry program at Children’s Minnesota.”
