Children’s Minnesota congratulates Dr. Angela Kade Goepferd, chief education officer and medical director of the Gender Health program at Children’s Minnesota, for winning the Eric Dick Child Advocacy Award from the Minnesota Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics (MNAAP). The award honors an individual from the community who goes above and beyond their everyday routine to advocate for the health and welfare of children in Minnesota, according to the MNAAP.
Dr. Goepferd is a dedicated advocate, thought leader and pediatric physician. In addition to leading the Gender Health program at Children’s Minnesota – the largest exclusively pediatric program of its kind in the region – they remain a steadfast advocate for the health and wellbeing of LGBTQ+ youth and families in the community.
This dedication goes beyond the walls of the organization’s hospitals and into the Minnesota State Capitol. During the 2023 Minnesota legislative session, Dr. Goepferd testified on behalf of the diverse communities we serve on key issues such as the Trans Refuge Bill, and a ban on what’s referred to as “conversion therapy.” Both bills became state law during that legislative session.
Dr. Goepferd is a decorated physician having already won awards such as the 2022 Ellen Perrin Award for Excellence in LGBTQ+ Health and Wellness from the American Academy of Pediatrics Section on LGBT Health and Wellness, and the 2023 Community Pride Award from Lavender Magazine.
