Neonatology

Ten years ago, Children’s Minnesota began partnering with Ridgeview in Waconia to bring a higher level of neonatal care to communities in the southwest metro. Since then, Ridgeview, in collaboration with Children’s Minnesota, has cared for nearly 1,500 infants at its Level II neonatal care unit (NCU) that features 7 private rooms and 13 total beds. In fact, the NCU at Ridgeview was set up to mirror the layout of the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) at Children’s Minnesota Hospital in Minneapolis.

Children’s Minnesota is excited to introduce 4 new neonatologists that started at Children’s Minnesota this summer. Our growing team now has over 20 neonatologists with strong expertise in critical newborn care, extreme prematurity, complex surgery, ECMO capability and NICU follow up clinic to continue care of former NICU patients.

Dr. Lia Gravari, a neonatologist at Children’s Minnesota, provided her expert insights about neonatal pneumonia, one of the leading causes of neonatal respiratory distress in a question-and-answer style article in Infectious Disease Advisor.

The Intensive Care Follow-up Clinic at Children’s Minnesota provides continuing care for babies who were born premature, with medical complexities such as congenital heart disease, or facing other health challenges.

This program provides a comprehensive and up-to-date review of low risk neonatal nursing based on the low risk neonatal nursing exam content outline. Participants receive information that will not only promote certification exam success, but will also enhance critical nursing practice.

As part of their 5th Annual 13 Days of Giving Event, Izzy’s Ice Cream will donate $2 for every cone sold on February 15, to the Olivia, Jack and Gracie Becker Endowment Fund, which benefits the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Children’s in Saint Paul.
