One family’s reason for getting the COVID-19 vaccine: freedom

To stay safe during the pandemic, 8-year-old Sam’s family has had to keep their social interactions very limited. His battle with acute lymphoblastic leukemia means he’s more likely to become seriously sick if he got COVID-19. For the family, a vaccine for kids like Sam means a return to seeing family and friends without as much worry.

Nico Wyrobek’s household is full – she and her husband have seven kids who keep them busy. While three are adults who are out of the house and have long since been vaccinated against COVID-19, the family still has four young children who have yet to be eligible for the vaccine. Nico talks about the struggles her family has faced during the pandemic and why her young kids can’t wait for their turn to finally get their shots.

Helping baby Javier – and his family – breathe easier

Mindy Torres has dedicated three years to working at Children’s Minnesota. When Mindy was just 22.6 weeks pregnant, her water broke due to a pregnancy complication and her baby Javier was then born at just 24.3 weeks, which meant that he was nearly four months premature! Javier was immediately brought to the NICU where he spent 133 days slowly getting stronger and stronger every day.
