Dr. Tamara Pozos speaks on patient with rare diagnosis of Hyper-IgM Syndrome

Diagnosed at Children’s Minnesota, Wally Brown became the third baby in six years to receive the diagnosis of Hyper-IgM Syndrome. This extremely rare disease means that Wally does not have a functioning immune system. According to Tamara Pozos, MD, PhD, medical director of immunology, the disease didn’t show on Wally’s initial blood test because he still had his mother’s immunity. A bone marrow transplant is the only treatment for this disease, and until Wally can receive a transplant he is in complete isolation.
